Abstract

The investigation of high temperature mechanical properties of the friction stir processed AZ61 alloy with different passes shows that the one-pass processed AZ61 Mg alloy exhibits inferior superplastic deformation ability along the FSP forward traveling direction due to the onionring pre-mature splitting. The homogenous microstructure in the multi-oass friction stir orocessed Mg alloy can avoid the onion-ring splitting and eliminate the anisotropy behavior of high temperature mechanical properties. © 2007 The Japan Institute of Metals.
