Abstract

One of the biomass that can be used as raw material in the production of bioethanol was sugarcane bagasse. Sugarcane bagasse also contains lignin. This lignin will disrupt the hydrolysis process, so it must be removed. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the concentration and type of yeast to produce bioethanol from sugarcane bagasse. Lignin content in sugarcane bagasse is removed by immersing it in a mixture of NH 4 OH-NaOH 2% at a ratio of 1:20. The concentration of yeast used (0.4%, 0.6% and 0.8%) of the substrate and the type of yeast are tape yeast and bread yeast. The results of this study indicate that the concentration and type of yeast affect the bioethanol produced. The concentration of bioethanol produced increased with increasing yeast concentration. The highest level of bioethanol was 14.16% which is produced from bread yeast with 0,8% concentration.
