Abstract

The development of the era of globalization has led to an increase in the use of technological aspects in all areas of life. One area of life that gets this influence is about the use of media in the form of online petitions as a form of channeling people's aspirations within the framework of freedom of expression, which is starting to develop in today's digital era. The use of the media to disseminate online petitions is expected to be an effective and efficient way to voice the aspirations of the community. This study tries to provide insight into how the legal power of online petitions as a means of channeling people's aspirations and their regulation in-laws and regulations as well as the effectiveness of online petitions as a means of channeling public aspirations in the digital era. This study uses a normative juridical research method that takes data sources from books, journal articles, online media and laws, and regulations. The results of this study indicate that Indonesia does not yet have a legal regulation that regulates online petitions and their legal force, although, in some countries, these online petitions have been able to become a medium that can channel people's aspirations to the state. Concerning the effectiveness of the online petition, it can be seen from its ability to maintain public participation and its influence in the decision-making process carried out by policymakers. The existence of this online petition is expected to be able to assist the government in gathering people's aspirations and assist the community in channeling and showing their aspirations so that they can be followed up firmly and responsively by the government.
