Abstract

Success in the management of pelvic malignancy, especially for the complex or unusual situation, frequently depends upon the proper interrelation of a number of factors. The blending of properly chosen aggressiveness within the framework of a systems approach will spell cure or adequate control of malignancy when the action is carried out by a team under the leadership of a skilled director or coordinator. This means the recognition that there are a variety of situations that challenge the physician in terms of pelvic malignancy. Many of these problems can be managed simply as fairly standard types of disease of a benign nature. In contrast, there are distinct situations that should be handled entirely, or to a major extent, through groups of individuals qualified for their management.
