Abstract
Visual literacy is one of the essentials of biology study and the means to compete in 21st-century life. The learning process in schools cannot be separated from the use of visual media, especially in the discussion of abstract material, one example is the concept of the cell. Visual literacy skill is required for understanding visual media. The average value of the National Examination for SMAN and SMPN students related to the cell concept is still relatively low, therefore learning at SMPN and SMAN needs to know the level of students' visual literacy skills. This study aims to describe the visual literacy skills of junior high school and senior high school students in South Tangerang. The research method used in this research is a survey with a purposive sampling technique. The sample in this study were students of class VII and XI science, totaling 142 students. The research instrument consisted of a test sheet and questionnaire. Analysis of the data used is descriptive statistics. The results showed that the visual literacy skills of junior and senior high school students were in the medium category.
