Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of financial literacy in controlling consumer behavior and lifestyle of students, especially among accounting students of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. In the digital era and easy access to technology, students are increasingly easily influenced by consumer behavior due to social media, modern lifestyles, and low self-control. Using a qualitative method through a questionnaire survey to 42 respondents, this study found that although the majority of students have an understanding of the importance of financial literacy, implementation in everyday life is still low. Many students have not routinely planned their finances and still make impulsive purchases. Based on the research that we have done, it shows that financial literacy plays an important role in helping students manage their finances more wisely, but its effectiveness is highly dependent on the social environment and individual self-control. Therefore, an understanding of financial literacy needs to be applied and sustained so that students are able to grow into individuals who are financially intelligent, wise in consumption, and able to build a balanced and economically sustainable life
