Abstract

Rabies is highly endemic in India and seen with dog bites from rabid dogs. In India, nervous tissue vaccine is commonly used as it is inexpensive and freely available despite frequent neurological complications. Neurological complications seen with traditional vaccine are morbid and the medical community should switch over to the cell culture rabies vaccine in spite of the expense to prevent these complications with rabies vaccine. © 2008 International Society of Travel Medicine.
