Abstract

Although the findings of this study cannot necessarily be generalised to all similar populations, this article indicates the psychosocial implications of the closing down of a mine for the workers and their families. This study can act as a blueprint for studying similar situations that might arise elsewhere in South Africa. The article focuses on the project planning, the data of the psychosocial situation analysis, the social group work sessions, the data from the questionnaires that were completed at the end of the women's day, and the existing strengths in the community.
