Abstract
A variety of perfluorooctanesulfonamido derivatives of piperazine have been synthesized and investigated as potential surfactants for the limitation of evaporation of hydrocarbon subphases. Measurements of surface tension on diesel fuel showed significant reductions in surface tension for several of these compounds. The postulated structural requirements for the optimum effect include a fluoroalkyl group, a rigid polar central section, and a lipophilic alkyl or aryl-alkyl substituent. © 1988, American Chemical Society.
