Abstract

Initial wetting phenomena and spreading property of CaO-SiO2slag on MgO single and poly-crystal refractory substrates are investigated using sessile drop technique and a high-speed camera (1 500 frame/s). By observing and analyzing the spreading rate, change of the contact angle, and the composition change in slag and refractory, we found that the initial wetting is non-reactive and controlled by viscous friction.
