Abstract

The article discusses weeding and storage decisions for academic libraries. The concept of the approval plan, which has been adopted by many libraries as a rules-based approach to selection and collection building, is contrasted with the disapproval plan, a rules-based approach to determining which publications can be removed from a library. The author examines steps that librarians must take before designing and adopting their own disapproval plans, including determining book profiles and library profiles.
