Healthcare Education in the AI Chatbot Era: The Hidden Trap

Abstract

The growing presence of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies has transformed how we approach everyday tasks. In particular, AI chatbots are revolutionising health care and have made healthcare services more accessible and effective by providing real-time support to users. Consequently, an opportunity exists for new approaches to healthcare education. However, researchers experimenting with AI chatbots remain cautious in relying on these new tools because of their potential negative impact on knowledge. This paper reviewed the current chatbot trends in healthcare education, focusing on the inadvertent negative impacts that chatbots could have on healthcare students. The results revealed the main barriers associated with AI chatbots in health care, forming a three-dimensional conceptual framework from ethical to cognitive to institutional. The findings describe challenges in academic integrity, bias, data validity and reliability, psychological effects, lack of policy and technological limitations.
