PERKEMBANGAN DAN PEMANFAATAN LAHAN SEDIMEN DI MUARA DAERAH ALIRAN SUNGAI PROGO HILIR YOGYAKARTA

Abstract

Progo watershed is one of the watersheds that undergoes critical situation in Indonesia. One of the environmental problems that occurs in the watershed is sedimentation. The objectives of this study are to examine the types of sedimentation in the downstream and to analyze the form of community's land utilization. Interviews, field observations and remotely sensed data are incorporated in the data collection. Stratified sampling is used in this research. The results of data retrieval are then qualitatively analyzed. The results showed that the sedimentation in 1995 covering area is 239 ha and became 317 ha in 2002. In 2015 sedimentation increase to 378 ha and extends to the area of Kulon Progo Regency. Forms of utilization by the community is seasonal crops agriculture activity for instance pepper, beans, and maize. Moreover, sand mining activities are also apparent.
