Abstract

Synthetic fibers play an important role in human’s life today. Synthetic fibers and textile surfaces formed from these fibers are used in many applications in technical textiles industry such as airbag, cord fabric, filters, composite materials, conveyor belts, optical materials, heat and sound insulation materials, as well as conventional textile products. The production of bicomponent fibers is one of the synthetic fiber production methods based on the principle of drawing two different polymers together. With this method, different properties can be imparted to the fibers. It is possible to produce specialty fibers by selecting cross-sectional designs depending on the end-use application. Bicomponent fibers have attracted attention commercially. In this article; the history of bicomponent fibers, bicomponent fiber definition, production methods and the state of the bicomponent fiber market are summarized, and commercial bicomponent fibers and literature studies have been mentioned especially in recent years.
