Abstract
CONDITIONS NECESSARY FOR THE INITIATION OF FATIGUE CRACKS ALONG PRIMARY SLIP BANDS IN GRAIN BOUNDARY-AFFECTED REGIONS ARE DISLOCATIONS PARALLEL TO THE GRAIN BOUNDARY PLANES OF THESCREW TYPE AND CROSS SLIP ON THE PRIMARY SLIP SYSTEMS. THISCAN BE PROMOTED DUE TO THE INCOMPATIBILITY OF ELASTIC AND PLASTIC STRAINS AT THE GRAIN BOUNDARIES.
