Abstract
In order to study the thermal behavior of a double stage planetary gear train, several measurment were performed on a specific test rig. Multiple operating conditions have been considered. In order to simulate the transient thermal behavior and efficiency of the above splash lubricated planetary gear set, an isothermal method is used. This approach assumes that all gearbox’s components have the same temperature. A numerical model is used to solve the problem: power losses and heat flow are calculated versus time. Which leads to the determination of oil temperature during transient regime. Finally, a comparison between numerical and experimental is presented to evaluate the accuracy of the developed thermal approach. Good correlation between experimental and numerical temperatures is observed.
