Abstract

This study presents a taxonomic treatment of genera and species of Cyperaceae Juss. in the campos de natureza of Cameta, Pará, Amazon, Brazil. After intense field expeditions and studies of herbarium collections, 11 genera and 51 species of Cyperaceae were identified for the area: Rhynchospora Vahl (17 species), Scleria P. J. Bergius (9), Cyperus L. (7), Eleocharis R. Br. (4), Bulbostylis Kunth (3), Lagenocarpus Nees (3), Fimbristylis Vahl (3), Calyptrocarya Nees (2), Diplacrum R. Br. (1), Fuirena Rottb. (1) and Hypolytrum Rich (1). Four species are recorded in the state of Pará for the first time: Eleocharis angustispicula R. Trevis., Eleocharis jelskiana Boeck., Rhynchospora curvula Griseb., and Scleria amazonica Camelb., M. T. Strong & Goetgh. A taxonomic identification key, morphological descriptions, taxonomic comments, geographic distribution, habitat data and illustrations for all species nutlets are provided.
