Abstract

Education Management is a theory-based course that must be applied in the plan of educational institution establishment. Students of Faculty of Education and Teacher Training are prepared to be able to understand and apply pedagogic theory, content and management of educational institutions. The purpose of this study was to determine the creative thinking skill of students in preparing the design of educational institutions. This research was conducted for one semester during the Education Management lectures through the Project Based Learning model. The method used in this study was quasi-experimental. Students were given the freedom to make their own project groups. Seven groups were formed. Every group develop an educational institution design according to their ideas. Their design was assessed by project assessment rubric based on 43 standard indicators of education management. Seven forms of educational institutions were produced, namely: Boarding school & science, nature-based schools, integrated Islamic-based schools, populist-based schools, culture-based schools, international-based schools, and character education-based schools. The results showed that the creative thinking level of students in the design of educational institutions in average was good for every indicator, namely fluency (4.01), flexibility (3.88), elaboration (3.91), and originality (3.9). We can conclude that the use of Project Based Learning model was able to encourage students to have creative thinking skills in planning educational institutions.
