On the ‘Movida madrileña’ cultural movement: An approach to youth culture from a History perspective

Abstract

The Movida madrileña represents one of the most popular cultural phenomena in our recent history. This study offers a revision of the different publications that have addressed the topic. It is also inteded to discuss some of the most deeply rooted notions of the Movida. For this purpose, the concept of youth culture is applied, on the one hand, as a solution to the debate about the countercultural potential of the Movida. On the other hand, it is put forward as a window to delve into some aspects of the phenomenon that still need being considered.
