WOMEN, MEMORIES AND GENEALOGIES. NEW APPROACHES TO THE FEMALE IMAGINARY OF CERRILLO BLANCO SCULPTURE GROUP (PORCUNA, JAÉN)

Abstract

The aim of this paper is, together with the readings focused on the heroic masculine image, to highlight the meaning of the female images belonging to the sculptural group of the heroon of Cerrillo Blanco. This group is key to understanding the ideological program of the Iberian elite of the territory of Ipolka (Porcuna, Jaén, Spain) in the middle of the 5th century BC. The analysis has focused on the images of the group of ancestors, applying a vision based on feminist archaeology, gender relations, the social construction of bodies and identity. This kind of approach allows fundamental aspects related to the practices and spaces of the women of this Iberian aristocracy of Ipolka to be introduced into the discourse of the monument. As a result, a richer and more nuanced perspective of these elites is obtained, thereby contributing to the generation of more balanced narratives about archaeological heritage that influence heritage education for equality.
