Abstract

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an important imaging modality in the non-invasive evaluation of cardiovascular diseases because of technological advances that facilitate the rapid acquisition of high-quality images. MRI is considered the gold standard in the evaluation of myocardial function. The good spatio-temporal resolution, wide field-of-view and multiplanar reconstruction capabilities of MRI make it ideal for the evaluation of the anatomy of the heart and great vessels. In this article, we discuss the current role and applications of cardiovascular MRI. © Touch Briefings 2012.
