Abstract

Purpose - Considering the idiosyncratic industry structure and activeparticipation in CSR implementation, this study investigates the effectof multiple CSR dimensions in an airline context. This studyhypothesizes that disaggregated CSR dimensions may have varying effectson airline organizational performance.Design/methodology/approach - The information was mainly drawn fromCOMPUSTAT and the CRSP Stock/Portfolio using the standard industryclassification code (SIC) 4512. KLD was also a source of CSRinformation. The study period was 2000-2012.Main findings - The study found that the employee dimension plays asignificant role in enhancing profitability and airline quality ratingand in mitigating systematic risk. Additionally, this study demonstratedthat the product dimension positively affects airline value.Originality/value - The research contributes to the body of CSR andairline literature. The study results will also help practitionersallocate corporate resources to appropriate CSR activities.
