Study on gender equity in job searches carried out by consultants specialized in personnel selection for engineering professionals

Abstract

TThe lack of women insertion in Engineering careers is a consequence of a host of political, social, cultural, and institutional factors, among others. In order to reverse the current trend, it is necessary to understand the phenomenon in its complexity. In previous Works of the project “The use of Information and Communication Technologies (TIC) in Engineering education”, researches has been made related to the entrance (admission), permanence and graduation of women into scientific careers and the job placement of graduates of the Faculty of Engineering and Cs. Agricultural from the National University of San Luis, Argentina. With the purpose of complementing and incorporating the vision of companies in relation to gender in their job searches, two studies were carried out. The first is a survey made to Recruitment Agencies located in Villa Mercedes City, San Luis Argentina. Since the Companies carry out their searches and recruiting process through them. The second is the Recruiting Agencies websites analysis of the whole Argentina, trying to identify the following aspects: uses of general language on the site, uses of language in the sections referring to job searches related to the field of study, sexist content, analysis of non-textual elements such as images and videos. The data recovered and analyzed in this work, added to the previous one's will allow to understanding if the female engineers have equal opportunities. And from there, stimulate women's vocations to engineering, as well as be able to intervene in various areas involved in carrying out the necessary transformations.
