Abstract

This paper describes a possible approach to provide advanced communication services for the Future Internet in an automated way. This is achieved by introducing a new Cognitive Transport Service layer on top of the traditional transport layer, which is used by the network to automatically negotiate the required transport service with the applications. Experimental validation of the proposed solution is discussed with the help of two case studies: bandwidth reservation on a secure channel and dynamic bandwidth negotiation for variable-quality video streaming. © 2011 The Brazilian Computer Society.
