Abstract
The article examines the status quo of competitive intelligence (CI) practices in Latin America with comparisons to the CI practices in South Africa. According to the author, like South Africa, Latin America's competitive landscape is being reshaped and the need for CI is gaining recognition as a means of enhancing competitiveness. She further states that CI practitioners in the region share the same challenges with their South African counterparts in developing and using internal knowledge and the ability to identify key intelligence needs. The author also cites the measures needed for employees to effectively contribute to the CI system, which include appropriate policies, procedures and a formal or informal infrastructure.
