Abstract

References on historical and recent earthquakes on Oaxaca City, or that have caused damage in other localities of the Oaxaca state from 1542 until 1988, are reviewed. Macroseismic data are used to define sets of similar earthquakes. On the basis of present knowledge about seismotectonics of the region, we suggest the definition of eight seismogenic zones. Data references and our interpretation are given in a catalogue. The 68 larger events (mb≥6.5, Ms≥7.0) are assigned to each one of the eight seismographic zones. -from English summary
