Abstract

An abundance of literature is available about trauma-informed care in the fields of law, social work and medicine, but not much work has been done in the area of creating trauma-informed classrooms in Christian institutions of higher learning. This paper will address best practices that will assist college professors in discussing difficult and traumatizing portions of the Bible in the classroom, while remaining sensitive to their students’ lived experiences. Becoming a trauma-informed professor is another way of creating a culturally relevant classroom that effectively connects with and responds to an increasingly diverse student population.
