Abstract

Like the other public hospitals in Paris, the two teaching military hospitals (HIA) of the military platform in Île-de-France, the Bégin Hospital (Saint-Mandé) and Percy Hospital (Clamart), admitted wounded victims of the terrorist attacks on November 13th 2015 in Paris and Saint Denis. From midnight to 1 am, the two health facilities have received and treated 52 war-wounded civilian people, often transported by convoy of first aid ambulances. This exceptional influx situation of injured people merits a return of experience to meet the elements of organization and management that have been adapted, as those for which improvements are expected. This article reports the time between the warning and the arrival of the wounded, the rise of the staff reinforcement plan, and the organization of the in-hospital admittance with identification, triage, initial resuscitation and emergency surgery. Blood transfusion, psychological support and welcoming families are also shortly described. Unknown situation in France, this massive casualty influx has similarities with those encountered in military operations, but differs in certain aspects, in particular the lack of saturation of operating theatres.
