Abstract

Introduction: After the 2019 educational reform, the term New Mexican School (NEM) was coined for the first time in the General Education Law, and from there it was introduced in different official documents. However, the term doesn´t have a clear and homogeneous definition regarding its conceptualization, which has caused confusion in the education system. This research analyzed nine documents of the Government that address the NEM, to identify whether it corresponds to the promotion of an educational model, educational policy, paradigm or is a curricular proposal. Methodology: Under a documentary research design, the content of nine documents was analyzed to establish connections between the analysis categories in order to interpret them and define what the NEM is. Results: The government proposal does not have the elements to be considered an educational model, nor an educational policy, nor a paradigm. Conclusion: The NEM is not a pedagogical formulation, nor a theoretical or conceptual construct, it is merely an educational proposal with a curricular meaning, due to the relevance that the documents give to the new study plans and programs and to the new textbooks, elements that are directly associated with the political-ideological discourse of the Federal Government.
