Factors Affecting Students' Learning Motivation Based on Sustainable Development Goals: A Case Study of Some Universities in Vietnam

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to determine the factors affecting students' learning motivation at some universities in Vietnam. The seven selected factors are (1) Family and friends; (2) Social factors; (3) Self-perception of the learner; (4) Learning environment; (5) Self-will of the learner; (6) Life perspective of the learner; (7) Living area of the learner on the basic of SDGS.   Material and methods: The researchers approached students from the second to fourth year studying at several universities in Vietnam to conduct a survey using a questionnaire. They went to each faculty and major at each university and distributed the questionnaire to 450 representatives corresponding to the 450 students interviewed.   Results: According to the results of this study, all seven factors affect students' learning motivation. In particular, the factor of the learner's own perception is most affected, so solutions to help students adjust their learning methods appropriately and increase their initiative in learning must soon be devised.   Conclusions: The findings of this study contribute to recommendations for lecturers, educational institutions, families, and learners to have better learning motivation and improve learning efficiency in the following years.
