Abstract

Wintertime is an exciting time for children because they usually get to experience some snow. Using the newly adopted Indiana Science Standards as a guide, a classroom inquiry into snow and snowflakes is shared. This inquiry begins by studying the phenomena of snow and leads into the discovery that most snowflakes have a hexagon at the center and branches at each point. Students inquire into the use of the radar as a weather forecasting tool and how the sun's heat helps to melt the snow.
