Abstract
The aim of this article is to situate the history of the emergence of the law of June 10, 1835, and highlight the impact of Carrancas’ slave riot in its formulation, considering the bill’s content submitted to the Parliament on June 10, 1833, which culminated in its promulgation two years later. We intend to explore, in more depth, some aspects of the uprising and fragmented memories built by politicians and memoir writers, throughout the nineteenth century and of the historiographic debate, which provide further evidence that the Carrancas uprising was, in fact, associated with the origin of that law.
