Abstract

A simple procedure for calculating the changes in the Earth's inertia tensor due to faulting is presented. It is shown that the corresponding changes associated with the spherical harmonic of the second degree (l= 2) may be calculated from perturbations of the potential in the gravity field at the Earth's surface. Previous results have been checked by the application of this method. Copyright © 1975, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
