Abstract

When Tai’s and Shukla’s stability anal- yses were compared, these stability esti- mates were closely associated in rank correlations. However, the significance lev- els of Tai’s λ i and Shukla’s Si 2 were not in agreement because, for a given significance level (P = 0.05), the F value chosen (F0.025 vs. F0.05 ) and the numerator df (n - 2 vs. n - 1) are contradictory between Tai’s and Shukla’s stability statistics, respectively. Shukla’s F test is appropriate only when the number of genotypes included in the analysis is large. Tai’s analysis provides a method of obtaining the prediction interval for (α i and a confidence interval for λ i in determining the genotypic sta- bility. Thus, Tai’s method is preferred, es- pecially when the number of genotypes included in the analysis is small (< 8)
