Abstract

Moderate levels of fluoride ingestion are beneficial to human health. Tea plant can accumulate fluoride. The high intake of fluoride may lead to skeletal fluorosis and dental. When the usage of phosphate fertilizer increased, the water soluble fluoride contents in the soil increased and the soil pH values decreased. The fluoride contents in the green teas were linearly related with the water soluble fluoride contents in the soil. The phosphate fertilizer, which contained high levels of fluoride, led to the high fluoride contents in the mature green teas. In developing green chemistry and green engineering, it maybe a low-cost method for the reduction the contents of fluoride in mature teas by limiting on the fluoride content in phosphate fertilizer used in the tea plantations in China.
