Abstract

This research discusses the coverage of controversial issues in Indonesia, namely the issue of legalizing medical marijuana. This issue is motivated by Santi Warastuti becoming a civil activist fighter who makes the source and spotlight of mass media, which is in line with global news regarding the use of medical marijuana. The period in this news issue is from June 20 to July 27, 2022 on kompas.com and cnnindonesia.com media. The paradigm used with the constructivist paradigm with Robert N. Entman's framing analysis with four elements of analysis, namely finding problems (define problems), estimating the source of the problem (diagnose causes), finding moral messages (make moral judgments), and providing solutions (treatment recommendations). The results of the analysis conducted that kompas.com has a news point of view that represents criticism of the government, related to bureaucracy and legislation regarding the legalization of medical marijuana. Meanwhile, cnnindonesia.com has an educative point of view by providing a government perspective to provide support for the legalization of medical cannabis.
