Abstract

Bartolomeu Lourenço de Gusmão was the first Brazilian inventor and scientist, famous by the creation in 1709 of the hot air balloon. In the 300 years of his best known invention, this article presents a new biography of the forerunner of Aerostatics and a new study of his devices. Copyright by the Sociedade Brasileira de Física.
