Abstract

A novel decaborate compound, [Ag(py)2]2[B 10O14(OH)4] (py = pyridine) (1), has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, FTIR, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/c (No. 14), a = 15.7115(7), b = 13.1477(6), c = 16.9463(8) Å, β = 105.2690(2)°, V = 3377.0(3) Å3, and Z = 4. The structure of the compound consists of infinite unusual wave-like borate chains constructed from large [B10O14(OH)4]2- groups. It represents the first example of a one-dimensional borate templated by a transition metal complex. Adjacent borate chains are further linked together by extensive hydrogen bonds to form a 3D supramolecular network with regular cyclic- and ellipse-like channels, in which the transition metal templates [Ag(py)2]+ reside. © 2008 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
