Abstract

This research studies and analyses the proposals related to citizen participation and innovation actions in 13 regional Public Service Media corporations that belong to the Spanish audiovisual map. After an examination of the scientific literature on citizen participation and public media, the comparative study and content analysis of the activity of public corporations in Spain, and within semi-structured interviews to innovation and participation managers in public media, we analyse their involvement with this task of renewing formats and narratives. Beyond the well-intentioned initial statements, there is a lack of proposals and coordination between them, and a manifest lack of relationship between the budgets and the generation of alternative content. This research ends with the proposal of a series of actions to implement citizen participation and the development of innovation initiatives, among which the need to incorporate media literacy as a central objective of the PSM stands out.
