Abstract
Host defense is one of the most fundamental functions of living or- ganisms. Primitive forms of host defense are present even in prokaryotes. All eukaryotes are endowed with a sophisticated mechanism of host de- fense. Immunity can be divided into innate and adaptive (acquired) im- munity.
