Abstract
Geriatric Psychology today mainly examines the conditions of successful aging. The increasing duration of life forces old people to change their conditions of living and spend their end of life in a residential/nursing home. Some psychological studies indicate that a prepared relocation is less stressful and more careful for all participants. In this context we examined expectations and attitudes, the need of information and the decision for a residential home of 100 private-dwelling elderly. The elderly had mainly positive expectations, but also a lot of fears concerning the life in a residential home. Moreover, a low level of information about residential home, a mainly negative attitude towards the residential home and finally a high satisfaction with their momentary life characterized the sample.
