Abstract

This work presents a review of the shallow-water species of Harpinia from Ireland and Britain. Four species (H. antennaria, H. crenulata, H. laevis and H. pectinata) are confirmed from the area and a further three species (H. dellavallei, H. serrata and H. truncata), regarded as possibly occurring in the area, are discussed. Males of Harpinia species are rarely described in the literature, however, material available in this study has made it possible to re-describe the males of H. antennaria and H. crenulata as well as to describe completely those of H. laevis and H. pectinata. A descriptive key, which includes both sexes, is also presented.
