Abstract
The present paper depicts the Kanban methodology and its main characteristics. This methodology seeks to achieve a productive, organized and efficient process. This technique was created in Toyota to control the progress of the work carried throughout a supply chain. Kanban is part of the Lean Manufacturing methodology which is based on the use of just-in time (JIT) techniques. The main objective of Kanban is to ensure a sustainable production to prevent excess of final product, bottleneck and delay in the delivery. The work in progress must be organised in accordance with the capacity of the work centres and work equipment. The system requires real-time communication on the capacity. Additionally, a is required transparency of total work.
