Abstract
Triasulfuron was evaluated in wheat and barley in a total of 84 field trials conducted in the SW Cape during 1983-86. At 10 g/ha triasulfuron provided 98-100% control of Silene gallica, Sisymbrium capense, Stellaria media and Pentzia spp., excellent control of Raphanus raphanistrum (96%) and Chenopodium murale (94%) and good suppression of Fumaria muralis, Spergula arvensis (both 89%), Vicia spp. (86%), Lolium multiflorum and Oxalis pes-caprae (both 80%). A tank mixture of 10 g triasulfuron + 169 g bromoxynil provided 96% control of Emex australis, 94% control of Arctotheca calendula and increased control of R. raphanistrum and S. arvensis to 99 and 96%, resp. Triasulfuron was very selective even at more than twice recommended rates. No carryover of triasulfuron was observed in follow-up legume crops. The half life of triasulfuron in a sandy soil was 4-7 days at 35C.
