Abstract

The preparation of 16 macrocycles based on 2-(2-hydroxyethoxy) phenol with both aliphatic and aromatic linkers has been achieved. Macrocycles varying in ring sizes (2328 atoms), number of aromatic groups (24), and donor atoms (610 including oxygen and nitrogen) were synthesized. Binding affinities were also assessed by extraction studies against a series of metal picrates. X-ray crystal structures were solved for four macrocycles. © CSIRO 2010.
