Abstract
The theory of pseudomodes in quantum optical processes was studied. It was shown that the theory can be obtained for single-quantum reservoir excitations by applying the Fano diagonalization method to a system in which the atomic transitions are coupled to a discrete set of quasimodes. Markovian master equation for atom plus discrete quasimode systems was presented. Results for atomic-true mode coupling constants and reservoir structrure functions of specific cases were also discussed.
