Abstract

This paper documents the operation of a General Electric MS7001 gas turbine on residual fuel. Proof of this capability will allow utilities an option on fuel selection which will reduce their operating costs. The background on the site power needs and selection of the gas turbine equipment are discussed. The operational status of this turbine with over 20,000 fired hours almost all of which is on residual oil are presented. The system operation of the gas turbine including power loss and data due to ash deposits and turbine cleaning methods and effectiveness are discussed. The results of a hot gas path inspection at 11,932 fired hours are also shown. An economic analysis of this residual fuel fired gas turbine compared to the same turbine if operated on distillate only is presented.
