Global Sustainable Challenges, Local Solutions: Paradiplomacy and Waste Management in Cirebon

Abstract

This article analyzes the role of paradiplomacy in addressing global sustainable challenges such as waste management at the local level, with a focus on the Cirebon case. The research attempts to learn more about the role of the city government of Cirebon as a subnational actor in dealing with the issue of waste management by working with the UCLG ASPAC through the CRIC program which is a form of paradiplomacy of the Cirebon government with international organizations. This study uses the theory of paradiplomacy with the aim of finding out the increasing role of subnational actors in dealing with problems in their city. This research used qualitative methods with primary data from interviews and secondary data from books, reports, and previous research. According to this study First, local governments'? active participation in international diplomacy can increase resources and solutions. Second, cross-border collaboration with international organizations helps solve difficult problems like waste management.
