Abstract

The recent advances in the preparation, characterization and biomedical appli cations of novel polymeric materials obtained by complexing polyelectrolytes in aqueous solutions are reviewed. A broad definition of a “polymeric complex” was adopted that includes not only stoichiometric and nonstoichiometric poly electrolyte complexes but also some colloids and dispersions based on polymeric materials. The use of interpolymer complexes for modifying enzymes, for mak ing special membranes, for stabilizing dispersions and for drug delivery is in cluded. © 1986, SAGE Publications.
