Abstract
Describes the simple, but revolutionary, pipeline leak detection system being successfully used by Thames Water, UK. Electrical pulses generated by the meter's turbine are converted into an exact and instantaneous measure of flow. The increasing importance being placed on water leak detection and reduction in the light of privatisation of the water industry and drought in the UK is discussed. Industry efforts to standardise and coordinate leak detection and reporting are considered. (J.M.M.)
